The last of our two Crape Myrtles was run over July 1 by an out of control driver on Holden – see the West Seattle Blog coverage here .
But we are not giving up on softening some of our hard surfaces. We are excited that Sustainable Seattle is working with us to bring a Rain Garden to our parking lot. A Rain Garden could help to mitigate some of the runoff from our roof and parking lot. Also, with the collaboration of Sustainable Seattle and HPAC, a Rain Garden at HPIC would help educate the neighborhood about storm water and air quality issues, and provide a demonstration of possible solutions.
Thanks to KOMO and all of you who were there at our very first Corner Bar: check out KOMO’s video here. The video is true – we had a great time. Save the date for the next Corner Bar – Friday, August 3!
Friday, July 6, starting at 6pm – help us initiate what we hope will be a monthly Corner Bar at HPIC. Draft beer, wine and non-alcoholic refreshments will be available at our pop-up neighborhood bar. A casual and friendly way to meet new friends and hang out with people you know. $3 gets you a beer or glass of wine, $1 for non-alcoholic beverages. We will have snacks like peanuts and pretzels – if you want more, bring your own or something to share.
Join Seattle Artist and Educator Deborah Faye Lawrence, “The Queen of Collage,” for a series of fun workshops exploring the remarkable versatility of collage, the friendliest of art forms. Easy-going atmosphere, basic instruction in visual art fundamentals, supportive discussion and artistic critique.
Most materials and tools provided. Please plan to bring dozens of your own magazines, personal photographs, letters, postcards, books you don’t mind cutting up, etc.
Workshop meets at the fabulous HIGHLAND PARK IMPROVEMENT CLUB
Terilyn Wyre will be offering yoga workshops on the last Sunday evening of each month.
From Terilyn:
In these workshops you can always anticipate asana, pranayama, mantra and a 30 min guided meditation that correspond to the theme.
Svadhisthana chakra the sacral centre or, more literally, the “the dwelling place of the self”.
“Sva” means “that which belongs to itself” and “dhisthana” meaning “its actual place” — indicating just how crucial this chakra is in our lives.
The tasks of the second chakra include allowing for emotional and sensual movement in our life, opening to pleasure, and learning how to “go with the flow.”
Let me know if you’re coming yogis so I can plan accordingly. Namaste.
