Yoga Workshop with Terilyn Wyre – Sun, May 27

SvadhisthanaSun May 27, 7-9pm
$20

Terilyn Wyre will be offering yoga workshops on the last Sunday evening of each month.

From Terilyn:
In these workshops you can always anticipate asana, pranayama, mantra and a 30 min guided meditation that correspond to the theme.

Svadhisthana chakra the sacral centre or, more literally, the “the dwelling place of the self”.

“Sva” means “that which belongs to itself” and “dhisthana” meaning “its actual place” — indicating just how crucial this chakra is in our lives.

The tasks of the second chakra include allowing for emotional and sensual movement in our life, opening to pleasure, and learning how to “go with the flow.”

Let me know if you’re coming yogis so I can plan accordingly. Namaste.

Raffle Donations from Wine For Our Times

The total raffle ticket sales at Wine For Our Times came to $1391! Thanks to everyone for your generosity and good spirits – all that money goes to our Raffle Queen, Martha Mallett. Additional donations can be sent to HPIC (1116 SW Holden St, Seattle, 98106) with a note that it is for Martha Mallett, and we will make sure she gets it!

Good job Lisa and Randy Leininger – their neighborhood hot dog and lemonade sale raised $2000. See the story on the West Seattle Blog here. What great neighbors!

Wine For Our Times was a huge success – thanks to all who participated! We will post pictures and winning wine info soon.

Update – Martha and Brian Mallett

Our dear friend, neighbor and lifetime HPIC member Martha Mallett and her son Brian have lost their home to a fire. (See here and here on the West Seattle Blog.)

Martha wants everyone to know that she and Brian are okay. Brian’s hands are healing from burns he got in the fire. They are staying in a West Seattle motel until they can find a place to rent while their home is rebuilt. Martha sounds like her strong, determined self and is very busy with Brian, beginning the task of putting their lives back together. Her family is all around her, strong and supportive.

Things we can do:

  • Stop by the fundraiser this Saturday, organized by Martha and Brian’s neighbor Lisa Leininger:

Saturday, May 5th
Noon-5pm
8442 20th Ave SW (3 doors south of Martha’s house)
They will be selling hot dogs and lemonade to show their support for Martha and her son.
(Martha was very moved when I told her about this).

  • Wine For Our Times: We will miss Martha, our Raffle Queen, at Wine For Our Times this year (also this Saturday). However, this years’ raffle proceeds will be donated to Martha and Brian.
  • Martha asked for help finding a furnished, two-bedroom house with kitchen for her and Brian to rent while their house is being rebuilt. Let’s find them a great place in the neighborhood!

Here’s to the real and vital community Martha is so much a part of!

The indefatiguable Martha Mallett.

Intro to Reiki class coming April 24

Eileen Dey of The Reiki Training Program

Introduction to Reiki
Reiki (pronounced ray-kee), is a Japanese word derived from ‘Rei’(Universal wisdom) and ‘Ki’(life force energy’). It is an ancient healing method that rebalances the energy field (aura, electro-magnetic field) surrounding and infusing the physical body. By releasing energy ‘blocks’ Reiki helps restore the natural flow of life force, thus helping restore a person to physical, psychological and spiritual health. Eileen Dey, M.A., LMHC founder of the only state-certified vocational school of Reiki www.reikitrainingprogram.com in Highland Park presents this informative and hands-on talk. Free!
